Located in the heart of Forney, Texas, Doe Belly's serves up an authentic Cajun and Southern dining experience that feels like a warm, welcoming embrace from the moment you walk through the door. Specializing in down-home Southern classics infused with bold Cajun flavors, this family-friendly restaurant is a true gem for anyone craving comfort food with a spicy twist.
The menu bursts with southern staples and seafood favorites that invite you to savor the flavors and rich textures of the Gulf Coast. Standout dishes such as the Catfish and Shrimp Basket and the Shrimp Étouffée Bowl showcase perfectly fried, golden-crisp seafood with just the right amount of seasoning to awaken your palate. The boudin balls offer a delightful bite, with a savory mix of spices wrapped in a crispy exterior – although one customer wished for a tangy Cajun remoulade to complement these little treasures better than ranch dressing.
If you’re after a hearty meal to share, their family-sized Fish & Shrimp meals offer generous portions like 15 pieces of fish planks or combinations of fish and shrimp that promise to satisfy a crowd without skimping on flavor. Meanwhile, the off-the-grill options, including the Grilled Tilapia Dinner and Grilled Rib Eye Pork Chop Dinner, come accompanied by hush puppies and two flavorful 8 oz side dishes, such as collard greens or red beans and rice, bringing balance to the plate with vibrant, homestyle Southern sides.
The dining atmosphere at Doe Belly's is casual and lively, perfectly suited for families and friends looking to unwind and enjoy homemade tastes reminiscent of family gatherings down South. Customers praise the friendly service as much as the food, noting the genuine warmth from the staff and the communal vibe that feels inviting and unpretentious. It’s no surprise that weekends often see a line forming out the door—a testament to the food’s high quality and the restaurant’s popularity.
One visitor, initially reluctant about fish, was quickly converted by Doe Belly's crispy fried shrimp and fish combo served alongside classic sides like dirty rice, collard greens, and fried okra. The crispiness and seasoning of the seafood consistently receive glowing remarks, with many appreciating that it’s cooked in cornmeal batter, delivering that satisfying crunch that separates good fried fish from great. The accompanying sides such as smoky collard greens and French fries help round out the meal, adding both texture and familiar comfort.
For dessert lovers, the homemade Banana Pudding offers a creamy, sweet finale that perfectly balances the spicy and savory notes of the main courses. Other tempting sweets like Sweet Potato Pie and classic cake slices add to the Southern charm, providing a comforting, nostalgic taste that rounds out the dining experience with genuine Southern hospitality.
Whether you’re a local or just passing through Forney, Doe Belly’s is a must-visit destination for those eager to immerse themselves in soul-satisfying Cajun and Southern cuisine. The blend of expertly seasoned seafood, thoughtfully prepared sides, and heartfelt service creates a memorable dining experience that calls you back time and again. It’s not just a meal—it’s a flavorful journey through Southern tradition.
We got fish baskets with fries, boudin balls, and chocolate cake. The fish was tasty but a bit too mushy for my preference, I’m not sure what kind of fish it is. The boudin balls were good but I feel they needed a different sauce other than what was offered to compliment them, like a Cajun remoulade or something. The ranch just wasn’t quite cutting it with the boudin balls. The chocolate cake was tasty and the fries perfectly seasoned. The tartar sauce was also quite nice, good flavor.
Me and my wife called first just to see if they fried their fish and shrimp in corn meal he said yes and we came over. First for the great reviews and because they cooked in cornmeal. Our food and service was great. It was fried perfectly i usually ask for all my food extra crispy but I didn't here because of previous reviews. Great place I'd recommend it. I'll definitely be back.
Nov 2025 - We scored an original Doe Belly's signed T-shirt for our offshore U.S. Army sergeant — and filled up on some mighty fine Southern cookin’. Had the 3-piece fried fish with shrimp, fried okra, collard greens, cole slaw, and tater salad — every bite was spot-on. Cold Blue Moon to wash it down, and the folks there couldn’t have been friendlier. Laid-back vibe, great service, and plates that taste like home. Five stars all the way — if you’re anywhere near Forney, swing by Doe Belly’s for some honest-to-goodness Southern-style seafood. You won’t leave hungry.
Doe Belly's is a must!! I personally am not a big fan of fish, but DB's has changed my opinion!! My husband and I stopped by while in Forney, and per normal, the food didn't disappoint. We had Fish and Shrimp rd (fried) French fries, dirty rice, cabbage, collards, and crispy okra. This was Saturday evening, and we got there just in time. The line was almost out the door within minutes of arriving. Now if you are a "huffer puffer " kind of person and want your food 5 minutes ago, be mindful of peek times. We don't mind waiting for food if it is "worth it"... Anyway..get to this place and sing their praises . Only open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday!! We will be back!!!
The service, food, and even the customers there were amazing. We usually travel to Forney once a month from Frisco and now have a must stop every time we’re in the area. The food was hot and seasoned very well to the point you didn’t need hot sauce or ketchup.
We got shrimp etoufee, dirty rice and red beans, and fried catfish basket. It was all super delicious. Probably the best fried fish ive ever had. Will have to stop here every time we head out to Canton
First, the food is amazing! I’m there at least twice a week but tonight 11/20/25 I did appreciate the service. Liberty at the front counter picked up the phone for me to place an order but never said anything (fine because I understand Friday nights). When she was done taking front counter orders she just hung up. Cool, I called right back, silence on the line (I think she just held the phone on mute). I live less than 5 min away, when I pulled up it wasn’t even busy. SMH, what’s wrong with “hold please”, “no call in orders tonight” or just don’t pick up at all. The rudeness will make me think twice about my frequent visits. Everyone else has decent energy and the guys are always cool/pleasant. Someone needs to tell homegirl, customer service is everything in the food business!
We've been going here for years, the seasoning is the best!!! I always get the 3pc fish basket and my wife gets the 8pc shrimp basket and we split it up. And of course extra hushpuppies.
